  • 26 ounces frozen French fries Use your favorite brand.

For the cheese sauce

  • 2 tablespoons butter Unsalted is preferred.
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk Use lactose-free milk for a dairy-free option.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 2 teaspoons ranch seasoning powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne powder Divided, adjust to taste.
  • 8 ounces white cheddar cheese, shredded Pepper jack can be used for extra heat.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven or air fryer to 400°F.
  • Spread the frozen fries on a baking sheet or in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  • Bake until golden brown, according to package instructions.

Making the cheese sauce

  • In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Whisk in the flour until combined, about 2 minutes.
  • Gradually add the milk while whisking continuously until smooth.
  • Stir in the salt, white pepper, ranch seasoning, and half of the cayenne powder.
  • Let this mixture cook on low heat until it thickens, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the shredded cheese until melted and creamy.

Assembly

  • Once the fries are ready, pour the cheese sauce over the crispy fries.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

You can prepare the cheese sauce in advance and store it in an airtight container in the fridge. Reheat gently on the stove before serving. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge; for reheating, the oven works best to maintain the crispiness.
