  • 1 lb ground beef (lean preferred) Provides the classic smash burger flavor.
  • 1 lb red potatoes, diced Crispy in the air fryer, feel free to substitute with russets or gold potatoes.
  • 1-2 cups shredded cheddar or Colby Jack cheese Use what’s on sale or in your fridge.
  • 1 cup chopped lettuce or mixed greens For freshness and crunch.
  • 1 small onion, diced To be caramelized.
  • 1-2 tablespoons olive oil For frying the potatoes and onions.

Sauce ingredients

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise Base for the sauce.
  • 1/4 cup ketchup Adds sweetness.
  • 1 tablespoon yellow or Dijon mustard For tang.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cajun seasoning Adjust to taste.

Toppings

  • Pickles For added crunch.
  • Extra lettuce As desired.
  • Fresh parsley For garnish.

Instructions
 

Prepare the Potatoes

  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F. Toss the diced red potatoes with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  • Air fry for 16–18 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.

Caramelize the Onions

  • Heat a skillet over medium-low with olive oil. Add diced onions and cook for 10–15 minutes until soft and lightly golden.
  • Keep stirring every few minutes.

Cook the Beef

  • In the same skillet, increase the heat to medium-high. Add ground beef, break it up, and press down to develop craggly bits.
  • Cook for 5–7 minutes until browned, seasoning with salt and black pepper.

Make the Sauce

  • In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and Cajun seasoning until smooth.

Assemble the Bowls

  • Start with a base of crispy potatoes, then add the smashed beef, caramelized onions, and shredded cheese.
  • Drizzle the sauce over and add chopped lettuce, pickles, and parsley.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

Meal prep this dish by cooking the potatoes, onions, and beef in advance and storing them separately.
